The modernization is implemented according to the technical conditions currently in force. The main tactical and technical parameters (output voltage, susceptibility, frequency range, quantity of the preset frequencies, weight e.t.c.) remained unchanged, in accordance with the radio set class and standards.
VHF simplex FM Radio set R-173М1 is intended to provide two-way telephone radio communication between mobile objects while moving and at a stop.
R-173M1 is made in two variants:
R-173M1 YAG1.100.029 - provides information reception and transmission in analog mode.
R-173M1 YAG1.100.029-01 - provides information reception and transmission in analog and digital modes, an opportunity to change information between personal computers through radio channel, operation with a remote control unit.
The radio set offers instant selection of preset channels and communication on any of ten preset frequencies.
The radio set provides operation on whip antennas 3m, 2m or 1m, wide-band VHF and emergency antennas.
Proper frequency selection provides joint, independent operation:
* on a common whip antenna, using antenna-decoupling devices
- two Radio sets R-173M1;
- Radio set R-173M1 and Radio receiver R-173PM1;
- Radio set R-173M1 and HF Radio set R-134;
* on separate whip antennas
- two Radio sets R-173M1;
- Radio set R-173M1 and Radio receiver R-173PM1.
While operation with analog signals all variants provide two operation modes:
* mode Intercom system - joint operation with equipment of integral connection and commutation (ABCK) R-174, R-174T, with intercommunication system R-124, or as well as without it using throat headset. The operation with an intercommunication system R-124 is performed with the help of a throat headset power amplifier (Unit R-173-16);
* terminal equipment (TE) mode - operation with equipment of integral connection and commutation and terminal equipment.
To provide the possibility to change information between personal computers (notebooks) through radio channels, Radio set R-173M1 YAG1.100.029-01 is equipped with a built-in joint interface RS232-C (or USB), and with impulse scheme of start and stop signals that detects the carrier in the radio channel. Operation a computer is implemented on the microprocessor basis, produced by the firm ATMEL. It is also possible to control the radio set with the help of a remote control unit, connected by the cable (up to 10m) to the joint of radio receiver.
The radio set keeps its serviceability under the temperature ranging from - 40° C to +50° C, and relative humidity up to 98% when temperature is +40° C.
The radio set is serviceable under vehicular mains voltage changes from +22V to +29V, when surge impulses reach +70 V with 3 js duration.
The radio set keeps its serviceability under vibration and high humidity level. The average time between failures is 6000 h.
The parameters and technical specifications of Radio set R-173M1 do not differ from those of Radio sets R-173 and R-173M, manufactured by other enterprises in former time, but it has more modern element basis. Units and component parts of the radio set are completely interchangeable with the units and component parts of Radio sets R-173 and R-173M . Operation of the radio set is provided with the help of a microprocessor. The front panel of the radio set is equipped with a modern membrane- button system with electronic commutation, that enabled the manufacturer to raise the radio set reliability and made the operation more simple.
